OPC DataHub -- The only OPC tool you need.
May 2008
Greetings!
This month BP Pipelines shows us how the OPC DataHub can come in handy for connecting OPC-enabled applications to legacy systems and other non-OPC compatible software. Maybe this story will give you some ideas.

BP Pipelines Connects New and Existing Systems with the OPC DataHub

Recently the management at the BP Pipelines Tulsa control center decided to add leak detection to their SCADA system to monitor pipeline leakage. The challenge was to feed process data from a Sybase database on the SCADA sytem to an OPC-enabled leak detection system.

"We tried for months to find an OPC server that would communicate via ODBC to the real-time Sybase product, and finally found the OPC DataHub," said Chuck Amsler, Team Leader for SCADA Applications at BP Pipelines. "We are very impressed with the overall quality of the OPC DataHub and with the level of support from Cogent."

Live Web Demo: System Monitoring and Browsing OPC Data on the Web

A live web demo, Monitoring PC System Information with OPC & Viewing OPC Data in Web Pages using OPC DataHub, is scheduled for Friday, May 16th at 11:00 a.m. EST (GMT -5).  In this demonstration you will see how to:

  • View PC System information using the OPC DataHub.
  • Monitor running processes and the time since the last reboot.
  • How to share any data in the OPC DataHub via web pages.
  • Questions and answers.

The presenter will be Mr. Colin Winchester from Software Toolbox, Cogent's North American sales and technical partner. There will be ample time for questions after the presentation. You can click here to register. Times worldwide:

Tunnelling OPC data between production systems and MES

A large manufacturing company in the US is using the OPC DataHub to tunnel OPC data between production systems and Management Execution Systems (MES) at all of their facilities around the country. The OPC DataHub is used to completely avoid the need to configure DCOM or Windows security permissions.
