5.2. CIF Driver addressing for DeviceNet card

Problem:

Getting the CIF Driver addressing to work for a DeviceNet card configuration.

Background:

The master maps all available I/O from the connected devices in the order in which they are found on the bus, trying where possible to use space contiguously. This gets a little tricky when you have a mix of digital and analog devices, as it might coalesce the digitals out of sequence relative to their order on the bus.

Solution:

The only way to configure your system is through trial and error (you get better with practice), and then putting the card on-line to see if the bus coupler complains or the driver generates an error. We have talked to the manufacturers of the card, the bus couplers and the I/O blocks, and they all say essentially the same thing.
