OPC DataHub Now Embeds Data into Email and SMS Text
Messages
The OPC DataHub can now automatically send email
reports and text message alarms that include the most recent
data from any OPC server.
Georgetown, Ontario (May 8, 2007) Cogent Real-Time Systems announces the latest
feature of their OPC DataHub software--the ability to insert
data from any OPC server into emails and SMS text messages.
The OPC DataHub can now automatically create and send
end-of-shift reports and status updates based on a timer, or
alarms triggered by data change conditions.
"Most alarm and message servers just send predefined
static messages," said Andrew Thomas, president of Cogent. "But
with the OPC DataHub, you can embed the actual data values into
the message. In fact you can include a whole table of related
data values to more clearly describe what's happening in your
system.
"Compare a message that says, 'The
temperature of Tank 3 is too high!' to this message:
WARNING! |
Tank 3 temperature:218.7 |
That's 3.7 degrees TOO HIGH! |
Tank 3 pressure:47.98 |
Tank 3 coolant temp:185.4 |
Tank 3 current level: 456.52 |
"If you had to act on this information, which message
would you rather receive?"
The OPC DataHub gives quick, easy, and reliable access to
valuable information direct from the factory floor. It is an
integrated tool that can present live process data directly on
the manager's desk, in a database, spreadsheet, or corporate web
page. This new email and text message capability provides even
greater access to critical plant data.
A supervisory or on-call engineer can receive text
messages on his cell phone as he moves around the plant. A
manager can have shift reports and summary data automatically
formatted for Excel and emailed to him each morning. Any of
these messages can contain embedded point values from OPC
servers, ODBC databases and other sources.
